string vs qft

The field theoretical treatment of gravity..or rather...quantisation of the gravitational field..leads to GTR. Thats awesome. You can also describe electrodynamics with qft, ok...qed rather....you can have a flavourspace using non abelian gauge theories...so why in the world discover string theory?
Problems with the concept of a string:
Now, the smallest entity of everything is usually imagined to be a sphere...simply beacuase it is the most symmetric shape in 2+ dimentions. Also you can neglect a lot of complications if you just consider a sphere. Rather...a small sphere of negligible radius. For example...you dont have to consider any self energy ...or any energy density for that matter....but a string being an extended object has all this. So maybe that helps you satisfy Einstein equation where tension T (or rather the energy momentum tensor) has some significance, but couldnt you just do it all by qft. qft gives me the feeling that it is the science of all...it can explain any interaction.

Reappearance on the interface!!

yup!! thats right!! i had disappeared. i knew i had a blog and told people so, but didnt bother to add posts since last time. too busy to be online. also , was devoting all my internet time to work and networking sites. so atlast im back to myself, my own blog page, which im sure, nobody reads. loads have changed in my life since i last logged in. in the mean time i have learnt lots. learnt the art of saying no, better than ever!! learnt where all elements came from and also where they are gonna go! right, im being very non explicit. thats the problem with blogs. if you explain too much, you sound like Mr D.S.Mathur (author of a 1st year physics honours course , mechanics text book).
 who knows, aliens may nt be the little green men we think they are. they might as well be like the people from Aragons kingdom (as in the lord of the rings)!.
